Asked: How to self portrait photography in studio

Professional self portrait how-to by Ken Tam

1. You need some kind of remote trigger, wifi controlled camera etc.

The left side is what just broken (the blue led burned in first month, then slowly other led failed) , and I don't recommend to buy such kind (they have many brand with different printing).

The right side is just arrived today... lets see how it perform in long run.

2x 600ws packs and heads system for on location headshots, portrait and corporate photography

I may not post this if the weight is not 👹

If you never access to pack and head flash system you may be too new to ocf photography or too young ;)

When we study photography there are just broncolor heads and pack system in our school at that time not much people use monobloc for professional photography works.

Profoto umbrella deep silver mysterious behavior

Note: Deep umbrella especially for on location portrait photography

Deep umbrella silver M 105105cm silver + diffuser + standard reflector

Deep umbrella white M 105 105cm white + diffuser + standard reflector

There are no special reason to choose deep umbrella modifier for the on location portrait photography, they don't provide any magic effect as the KOL s promoted... whatever zoom para #$%^&*( ba ba ba.

I choose to use them as a fast setup huge softbox whenever the lighting setup time is limited, always use the white one with diffuser if you need a big soft light source.

Silver one act like a small light source either with recessed or protrude flash heads.

Use standard reflector / umbrella reflector will reduce the hot spot... most observed when feathering the light.

Happy shooting...

Note of the last corporate photography in Dongguan China

Behind the scenes of corporate photogarphy in dongguan China

Client want professional photographs for their annual report that show the tuck load process in China... the photography must be take place while their live operation... we have not much time for posing and setup lighting etc.

We resolve this with an AD1200 Pro + Deep umbrella

  • Deep umbrella mean faster setup in each spot
  • 1200ws good enough to work under bright sun (overpower the sun)
  • Battery powered flash mean no cable run across the field
  • TTL  / Radio control trigger mean no assistant running around with my Sekonic meter
  • HSS mean better control the DOF / Contrast between the target and the background

Modern technology and accumulated experience do really help us to create images that may not be so smoothly before, and that's why we always investing in knowledge and latest equipment.

Yesterday someone ask why his photography no look that epic as other photographs he seem in social media?

Most of the photographs people post in social media... want to attract the likes... and they will use any overdone post method to make their boring photograph look stun, maybe one day we will see many photographs use same sky for different scenes. For me those are digital arts and not photography at all.
